Article 258 - Which Point Grey camera driver should I use?

Issue:
Which Point Grey camera driver should I use?

Solution:

Point Grey Research provides a number of different device drivers that allow users to control their Point Grey camera products across many different operating systems. Unfortunately, this can often make the driver selection process difficult. This article is designed to help users decide which driver they should select for use with their Point Grey camera, based on camera interface, operating system and general application requirements.

Ladybug users should consult Knowledge Base Article 388.

Driver and Operating System Compatibility

The following table lists all compatible operating systems and their compatibility with different drivers and interfaces.

  • Configurations marked with a (•) are supported. Those marked with an (x) are not  supported.
  • 1394a and 1394b refer to the type of FireWire OHCI host adapter card. It is possible to use 1394a/1394b cameras on either type of card (1394b devices will not be able to run faster than S400 on a 1394a bus).
  • The performance of 1394 devices may decrease after installing Windows XP SP2/SP3 or Windows Vista. Learn more.
  • PGRxHCI has not yet been tested with Windows XP SP1/SP2
  • On Linux systems, Point Grey cameras work directly with native Linux drivers. No Point Grey-specific drivers are necessary.
